GROUND GRANULATED BLAST FURNACE SLAG
What is GGBS
Ground Granulated Blast furnace Slag as the name suggests is granulated blast furnace slag, ground to very high fineness. Granulated blast furnace slag is obtained during the manufacturing process of pig iron in blast furnace. When the molten slag at 1400-1500 deg.C is tapped and subjected to a special process of quenching it forms granules which is called granulated slag.
This slag when ground to very high fineness is called Ground Granulated Blast furnace Slag. GGBS when used along with OPC in concrete or mortar mix imparts unique properties to obtain very strong and durable concrete and mortar mix.
At Alcon, we are scheduled to install the most modern Ball Mill plant from China to grind slag to very high fineness while maintaining uniform particle size distribution. This will enable us to supply you with world class GGBS.

Protection from sulphate attacks
Protection from alkali-aggregate reaction
Prevention of corrosion of reinforcing steel

Improved long term strength
Due to the above advantages, GGBS imparts much needed durability to concrete and mortar. It can be used for all types of construction in coastal areas. It is also used in high grades of concrete, where use of cement replacement materials are required to control the danger of shrinkage and thermal cracks.
Alcon currently produce around 1000 - 2000 MT per month as per the requirements of our Ready Mix concrete division. We plan on setting up another plant which will have a capacity of 60000 MT per annum.
